Orange

Hey friends! Sorry I've been neglecting you! *sad face* but here is a newish painting. I love colorful shadows! This painting was about the form of the shadows vs the emptiness of the bright light. Have fun lookin'!

Introducing my cat, Pinto!

Hey everyone! I just finished this painting... My brain hurts... This is the fastest turn around from drawing to painting I have ever done, less then two days! I used all my colors on this one, as you can see. For the last year I haven't really liked working in watercolor but this painting has got me loving it again. I went for a very direct approach, bright concentrated colors instead of thin washes. It was very fast and a heck of a lot of fun!

Ace

Writing about my paintings is hard! I can't really think of anything to say about this piece except that I had fun painting it and it turned out better then I thought it would.... Oh and dogs are fun to paint.... They have great eyes.... And stuff.... Enjoy!

Another self portrait.

This portrait came about because of an oil painting class I was suffering through. I suck at oil painting but I thought the assignment of a self portrait with a strong light source would make a good watercolor. I really like how this turned out. The strong light source made for very interesting shadows, and isn't that what watercolor is all about? (the shadows, that is)

Magenta

Its no secret, I love the color pink. It makes my eyes sing (metaphorically of course) I have more pinks on my palette then any other color. This painting is the perfect example of my absolute love for cool magentas and warm pinks.

Guess what?! It's watercolor!

I realize my blog is titled 'watercolors by Audrey Montoya' and I haven't been posting any watercolors... So here is a watercolor portrait... I can't think of anything artsy to say about it...

Falling out of love

So I know it seems really self involved to be constantly painting self portraits but what can I say? I am. Just kidding (am I?) No I'm kidding. But the reason why I (and so many artists) have so many self portraits is simple. I don't have to pay myself, and I probably wont sew myself for using the images. (probably) You know I published this last year and now that I'm looking at it, it sucks. Both of them. YIKES. Oh well I will do better next time.

The 'big' show.

I know this is a really low quality pic, but I was super excited to post it. The paintings are now up for the gallery showing. Now I've just got to wait a week for the opening. I already sold a painting too! I think it will be a good show. Oh, this is only part of the show. There are 8 pieces in all. Hope to see you at the opening.

I loved the strong light contrast cast around his eyes. I just got a new color and was really excited to use it, the magenta (the new color I was talking about) really brought out a great contrast in the face. This is one of the paintings that will be featured at Gallery J.Wayne for the month of May (see oldest post for details). The opening is May 7th, and I hope to see you there. ;-)

Huh? What? A painting of confusion.

This is my newest painting. There is still a few things that I'm going to work on, but for the most part its finished. I really loved the colors in the face and the scarf. It took me about 8 hours at work.
